OUR story

Born out of a basement in the Cleveland neighborhood of Tremont, nPower® technology was invented by Aaron LeMieux.  While through hiking 1,500 miles on the Appalachian Trail in 1996, Aaron wondered how to take the kinetic energy of his backpack and convert it into usable electricity.  By 2007, Aaron founded Tremont Electric, by 2009, nPower® technology was patented and the first nPower® PEG was launched, the most acclaimed clean energy technology to emerge from the industrial rust belt city of Cleveland, Ohio, or anywhere, in a generation.

From Aaron and his wife Jill's basement, Tremont Electric moved a few blocks to a storefront on the main drag in Tremont, Professor St., between an art gallery and a bar named after Thomas Edison.  In 2011, they packed their bags for greener pastures....two blocks down Professor.  Today, Tremont Electric continues in our namesake neighborhood, working every day to bring clean energy jobs to our hometown, Cleveland.

Awarded 2nd place in the Consumer Electronics Association 2010 iStage competition for innovation and the 2012 Edison Award Silver Medal for Power Generation, the nPower® PEG is the first generation of nPower® technology to market.  From here, Tremont Electric aims to produce commercial scale electricity through the patented nPower® Wave Energy Converter, creating power from the movement of waves on open water.

Before founding a clean energy startup, Aaron was a crisis and business turnaround manager for small-cap manufacturing companies in Northeast Ohio for over ten years, learning manufacturing technologies from the ground up in capital constrained environments.  Aaron was an important consultant for the launch of Alcoa Subassembly and Logistics (ASL), a Just-In-Time facility serving the Freightliner division of Daimler Chrysler.  Aaron collaborated with Stryker Howmedia Osteonics to develop a manufacturing method for implantable devices.  Aaron has served in the US Naval Reserves.

With five granted US Patents to date, Aaron holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toledo with a specialization in Biomedical Engineering.  Aaron lives with his wife Jill and their two dogs Harvey and Bianca in, of course, Tremont.
