The Other Alternative Energy

Our Story

Inventor and entrepreneur, Aaron LeMieux (a.k.a. “Doppler”), came up with the idea for the nPower® PEG while backpacking 1,500 miles on the Appalachian Trail. As a mechanical and biomedical engineer, Aaron recognized the kinetic energy that was being wasted as his backpack rubbed against his shoulders and hips with every step. He also had to stop at towns along the way to buy disposable batteries to keep his devices running.  It was during this trip in 1996 when Aaron began thinking of ways to capture this energy and create usable electricity to charge hand-held electronic devices.

2006

  • Aaron leaves his job as a consultant to a Fortune 100 company, turns his family's basement into a laboratory, and continues working (full-time) on the nPower® PEG.

2007

  • Aaron establishes Tremont Electric, LLC and assembles a four member start-up team to commercialize the technology.
  • The Company files the first patent application for the nPower® technology.
  • An independent testing laboratory validates the nPower® PEG.

2008

  • Tremont Electric moves from Aaron's basement into its first office located in Tremont, Ohio.
  • The Company receives the Northcoast Opportunities Fund from Cuyahoga County & Nortech to assist with product commercialization.
  • Tremont Electric conducts a research study to help determine product demand and to obtain crucial feedback from potential nPower® PEG users.
  • The four-member start-up team expands to seven, adding two engineers and a specialist in the consumer electronics industry to the team.

2009

  • Tremont Electric unveils working prototypes of the nPower® PEG at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
  • The Company identifies the product's beta testers and begins testing the product with consumers.
  • March 2009 The nPower® technology is patented.
  • Tremont Electric added two more people to its team who are specifically focused on the development of nPower® Wave Energy Converters.
